Clinical Training National Forums

On 29 November 2008 the Council of Australian Governments agreed to establish a new national agency to progress reform of the health workforce, including supporting the development and enhancement of clinical training for health professionals across Australia.

On 26 February 2009 Universities Australia with the National Health Workforce Taskforce (NHWT) hosted a national forum involving education providers to workshop arrangements concerning proposed new arrangements for increased access to clinical training and the role that the new agency could have to make clinical training arrangements more efficient.

On 27 March 2009 NHWT hosted a second national forum involving representatives from accreditation bodies, professional associations, health service providers, student bodies and governments to further explore how the new agency can best support the management of and arrangements for clinical education, including the monitoring of demand, developing strategies for increasing capacity and exploring new and alternative settings and modes for clinical education.

The outcomes from these forums will build on the understandings and feedback gathered from the written submissions on the discussion papers Clinical Placements Across Australia: capturing data and understanding demand and capacity and Clinical Placements Across Australia: Organisation and Governance.
