The research, planning and data program links into Principle 6 of the National Health Workforce Strategic Framework in which

"Health workforce policy and planning should be population and consumer focused, linked to broader health care and health systems planning and informed by the best available evidence"

Key objectives

The key objectives of the research, planning and data portfolio are to:

  • Lead, encourage and support a health workforce research, planning and policy development agenda to provide a sound evidence bases upon which to inform policy decisions on workforce supply and demand, distribution, utilisation and design in order to meet the projected population and consumer health care needs, and
  • Continually improve national health workforce information through data collections, establishing common language, minimum data sets, and consistent collection and processing arrangements across jurisdictions.
